headache - i has it

I couldn't have known how today would turn out, judging by the way it started. I actually still have mixed feelings on if today was a good or bad day.

I ended up missing class again, and for absolutely no other reason than I ended up falling asleep while waiting for an acceptable time to be in school (I don't have class until 12:30 on Tu-Th, and I was awake around 9). I also ended up missing a scheduled office hours appt, so I'm pretty bummed out about that. I really don't want to fall into the same pattern of doing exceptionally well, and bombing everything last minute because of senioritis, thus catapulting my GPA from that perfect 4.0 to that really hurtful 2.5.

The nap had me waking up around 1 o'clock, so I probably could have still made it to school, but I would have missed a significant portion of it, especially since the building where the class is is about a fucking half mile walk from where I would've had to park.

So 1:20 rolls by, and I realize I actually have to work today -- open, no less. So the bf and I head over to the Silver Diner, where I order a shit ton of french toast and biscuit. Bf had these really tasty Wasabi Salmon sliders (Only $6.99!) and some sort of tropical salad. I'm going to order that next time, for sure.

The meal ended up taking longer than expected, and I was late to my 2:45 shift by about 10 minutes.

That started off a pretty bad series of events:

Because I was late in setting up (aka making take-away butters and shit), I also ended up being unprepared for the Thursday mid-afternoon rush (umm srsly wtf? does everyone wanna go to outback at 3:30pm on a Thursday?).

Further, my other takeaway coworker was late, too (by about 20 minutes T_T). I had to both take orders from the phone, outside, take payments, *AND* bag the food myself. This meant constant trips to the kitchen, where I was yelled at for not finishing up the butter container things, and the mess on the takeaway table.

About 8 orders in, and 4 more waiting to place orders, my help finally arrives. She actually ends up just confusing me, because she starts taking payments for things, throwing the money at me, and expecting me to grow another pair of hands so I can process the payment *and* put in another order.

There's only one computer at the takeaway closetroom. You can literally only do one thing at a time.

So, in all the chaos, a customer actually ended up leaving without paying for her food.

And I was blamed for it.

I was in such a bad mood for the entire time, especially since the help didn't get in trouble for it at all -- technically, I was doing HER job for her because she was late, *and* taking payments when no one but the cashier is allowed to handle money.

So, fed up with all the questions from management, I just offered to pay the bill and be done with it. $30 was not worth the headache I was getting from everything, and honestly, that's what they were aiming for anyway. "So... what are you going to do about this check?"

Fuck you. I'll pay it.

But, for some reason, the manager decided to take pity on me and just "comped it." I have mixed feelings about that. It's a little more fair than just having me pay the whole bill, but at the same time I feel like I've lost a lot of credibility because of it. "Oh, that new girl made a dumb mistake. Whatever. First time, she'll eventually learn." I hate that feeling. It's just demeaning. I actually thing I'd feel a lot better if I just paid the damn ticket.

Anyway, I came home from work with a headache, but admittedly a bit more money than I was expecting to come out with.

On a brighter note, I saw Anika again today. She looks fine, much better actually from the Skype convo we had while she was in Japan. There were actually quite a few people here. We all smoked some hookah in the 3-seasons room, watched Before The Devil Knows You're Dead (which was, while slow, a pretty decent movie), and just had a generally good time.

I have to work again tomorrow (closing this time), so hopefully I'll have a better day. There's also supposed to be a party at my place tomorrow, so I guess even if I don't have a good day, I'll have a better night.

〜☆。 Anika got me this really cute schedule/planner and cellphone charm as souvenirs from Japan. It's all ギャチャピンand ムック! I'm actually really excited. I love them!! 。☆〜
